UF Dropbox Update
On September 23, 2024, UFIT will modify the UF Dropbox service to ensure that any Dropbox account with a 'gatorlink@ufl.edu' business or school email address is a part of UF's Dropbox for Education ecosystem.
Because of this change, any 'free' or 'freemium' Dropbox account created with a gatorlink@ufl.edu will be affected. Please see the FAQs below for more information about who will be impacted and what to do when the change occurs:
- Who is Eligible for UF Dropbox?
Current Faculty and Staff
- If you’re not sure if you qualify, check the chart here: Service Eligibility
- What Happens if I Created a Personal Dropbox Using a ufl.edu Email Address?
- If you fall into one of the categories to be eligible for UF Dropbox (listed above) you will receive an email from Dropbox on September 23, 2024, asking you to join the UFL account or change your email address to a personal non UF email address. If this account is being used to conduct UF business, then it needs to be merged into the UFL Dropbox team environment. You must select the “Combine accounts” button which will join your account to UF. Once the accounts have been combined, you can then drag and drop any personal data you may have stored in there to another account or to your local computer.
- If you do not fall into one of the eligible categories listed in the chart here: Service Eligibility, then your account is ineligible, and you will receive a different email with specific instructions to change it to a personal, non-UF managed email address.
- What Happens if I Already Have a UF Dropbox Account That I’m Still Using but I’m No Longer Eligible For?
- On September 23, 2024, if your account is no longer eligible for access to the UF Dropbox service, your UF Dropbox account will be disconnected, and you will no longer be able to access it.
- What if I Created a Personal Dropbox Account Using a ufl.edu Email Address To Use With a Service Account or Team of People?”
- Follow the instructions in the email sent to the account to select Combine accounts. If the account was used for a team of people, then then contact the UFIT Help Desk (352)-392-4357 or helpdesk@ufl.edu, and inform them which option below to make the content available:
- Option 1 – Merge the content into an individual’s account. Specify the Gatorlink ID\user name of the account you want the content moved into.
- Option 2 – Merge the content into a shared team folder. In this case specify the following:
- What you want the shared team folder to be named.
- Who else needs to be a member and have access to the shared team folder.
- What Happens if My Account Is Disconnected? Can I Still Get My Data?
- Accounts will be disconnected if they are no longer eligible for UF Dropbox service or if are not eligible for UF Dropbox and you choose the join UFL account option in the email. Unfortunately, if your account is disconnected, there is no way for you to access or recover your data.
- What if I Paid for Additional Storage on the Personal Dropbox Account I Created With a ufl.edu Email Address?
- If you fall into one of the eligible categories (listed above), after your account is merged, you will need to contact Dropbox support to suspend your payment for the additional storage.
- If you are not eligible, you will need to contact Dropbox support to see if your payment will continue to the new account or if you will need to setup payment again.
- What if I Created Multiple Personal Dropbox Accounts?
- You may have more than one Dropbox account registered as a personal account. These accounts could be in addition to your gatorlink@ufl.edu account using one or more college/departmental email addresses (unit.ufl.edu). If you have multiple Dropbox accounts registered as personal accounts with a ufl.edu email address, then you will receive an email with instructions on how to merge the contents of the multiple accounts into your primary account.
